Am Freitagmorgen, 15.05.26 wurden um 9.53 Uhr die Abteilungen Oberderdingen, Flehingen und Großvillars von der integrierten Leitstelle Karlsruhe zu einem Brandeinsatz in die Flehinger Straße alarmiert. Vom Discounter LIDL wurde ein Brand in einer Maschine im bzw. am Gebäude gemeldet.

Nach dem Eintreffen an der Einsatzstelle und der Lageerkundung bestätigte sich die Meldung. In einer Papier-/Kartonpresse mit angeschlossenem Container im Anlieferungsbereich kam es zu einer Rauchentwicklung mit Brandgeruch.

Umgehend wurde ein Trupp unter Atemschutz mit einem C-Rohr und der Wärmebildkamera zur Brandbekämpfung eingesetzt. Der Brandherd des Kleinbrandes konnte in der Förderschnecke der Papierpresse lokalisiert werden. Von dort aus hatte sich das Feuer auch teilweise in den Container ausgebreitet. Vermutlich hatte ein versehentlich in die Presse geratener Handscanner durch die Zerstörung in der Presse den Brand verursacht.

Parallel zu den Erstmaßnahmen wurde zum Wegziehen des Containers das Wechselladerfahrzeug der Feuerwehr Bretten nachgefordert und die Wasserversorgung aus dem Gewerbegebiet "Allmend" aufgebaut und sichergestellt. Nachdem das Abrollbehälterfahrzeug eingetroffen war, konnte der Container problemlos aufgenommen und vom Gebäude entfernt werden. Zum Ablöschen der Glutnester und zum Entfernen der Scannerteile wurde die Förderschnecke und ein geringer Teil des Containers vor Ort entleert. Das Feuer konnte schließlich schnell abgelöscht werden.

Im Einsatz bzw. in Bereitstellung waren 16 Feuerwehrangehörige der Abteilung Oberderdingen mit dem Löschgruppenfahrzeug LF 16/20 und dem Einsatzleitwagen ELW 1, 17 Kräfte der Abteilung Flehingen mit der Drehleiter DLAK 23/12, sechs Kräfte der Abteilung Großvillars mit dem Mittleren Löschfahrzeug sowie ein Mitarbeiter des Bauhofs als Fachberater mit einem Fahrzeug. Die Feuerwehr Bretten, Abteilung Bretten war mit drei Feuerwehrangehörigen und dem Wechselladerfahrzeug WLF zur Einsatzstelle geeilt. Der Rettungsdienst des DRK-Kreisverbands Karlsruhe war mit einem Notarzt, drei Mitarbeitenden, einem Notarzteinsatzfahrzeug NEF aus Bretten und einem Rettungswagen RTW von der Wache Oberderdingen angerückt. Von der Polizei waren zwei Beamte des Reviers Bretten vor Ort. Einsatzende war gegen 11.50 Uhr.
